JOHN A. PURDY
President
and Chief Executive Officer |
| |
John’s 20-plus year
career in interactive media started in the software development environment
at Bell-Northern Research (now Nortel Networks), where he was initially
responsible for the technical and professional training in the Dallas
office. He became interested in multimedia as a training and communication
tool, and developed some of the earliest business uses of multimedia in
the U.S.
Seeing the potential for multimedia, John started his own development
company in 1991 - Io Media - then sold it to Sanctuary Woods Multimedia.
These early companies focused on business training and communications,
and consumer, game and “edu-tainment” development.
John got involved in Internet development as executive producer of Eagle
River Interactive (now Agency.com). From there he oversaw the development
of numerous interactive media projects as a director and senior producer
at several companies in Dallas and San Francisco. Most recently he was
Vice President and COO at InSite Interactive in Dallas. At InSite, besides
marketing communications and applications, John developed a number of
interactive learning projects, in particular eight award-winning learning
games for Cisco Systems.
John has been very involved in interactive media and Internet education
over the years; he currently serves as the Industry Chair of the Richland
College Multimedia Advisory Board, is on the Art Institute’s Multimedia
Advisory Board, and is an advisor for the Guildhall digital gaming school
at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He is also Academic Relations chair on the board of
the Dallas Ft. Worth Interactive Marketing Association. John has represented
the Internet and Multimedia industry on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board, and was a panel speaker to the Texas Association of College Technical
Educators.
John celebrated his
first 50 years in April 2006 and lives in Dallas, Texas with his soul-mate
and wife, Cindy. He has a daughter, Jack, and a cat named Yang. John enjoys
photography, World of Warcraft and reading, and is a certifiable space,
science and physics geek.
